Malgrat de Mar, Costa Maresme, Catalonia in Spain

 

Malgrat was originally named Vilanova de Palafolls iand founded in approximately 1373, it was conferred as a town by Guillem de Palafolls. He was the Lord of the Castle Gillem de Palafolls. This castle is restored and a wonderful family attraction. Malgrat as a town and its inhabitants can trace their history back further than this though. Roman excavations in the area date back to 200 B.C.

Malgrat has traditionally been associated wqith agriculture and maritime industry like fishing. It is part of the province of Barcelona, but the history of the town is far more closely associated with Gerona.

It lies on the coast between Santa Susanna and Blanes. Barcelona in Spain is connected byl road. It is served by a RENFE railway which takes you all the way to Barcelona. The local airport is Reus and car hire is easily arranged. Cheap flights into Reus Airport and Barcelona Airport or even Girona Airport are readily available. With a wide choice of Hotels, Villas and Apartments it makes for an ideal family package holiday.
