Tossa de Mar is in the Spanish region of Catalonia on the Costa Brava.

This is a quaint old town with cobbled streets, medieval castle. Behind the town, inland, you will find beautiful lush countryside, olive groves, small villages that time has passed by give a local flavour.

Tossa is in the midst of the Costa Brava, north of Barcelona and not far from the French border. IA stark contrast to Lloret de Mar. The Flying Dutchman was filmed in Tossa and starred Ava Gardner and Frank Sinatra. A statue of the actress can be found in the old town.

In this historic town you absolutely must visit the Villa Vella or old quarter. It has medieval defence walls and towers that are almost complete. Medieval Tossa de Mar can trace its history to 966. In 1187 a medieval castle was constructed to defend the shoreline.

The stone-walled enclosure was built in the 12th to 14th centuries has been well preserved together with original towers which have now come to symbolise Tossa.

Just outside of town is the Sa Riera park, a nature reserve with a Mediterranean forest, river and lake that has an underground irrigation system.

The Massif of Cadiretes stretches across Tossa between the plain of La Selva and the Mediterranean. It is well worth a visit.
